Conyers Animal Hospital
Thanks for stopping in...long time, no blog. I recently got a job in March working at the weekly DeKalb Neighbor newspaper in Atlanta, covering the Decatur, Chamblee, St. Mountain and Dunwoody areas. We cover DeKalb County most of the week and Rockdale County once a week. Last week in Rockdale, I photographed inside the Conyers Animal Hospital to capture some of the everyday happenings in the veterinary world and one of my first subjects....
...wanted to check out my camera. Veterinary Tech Jess Kellam combs Simon to calm him after a shot.
Amanda Johnson is greeted by Simon as Vet Tech Jess Kellam (center) combs his fur and Vet Tech Heather Hasty looks on in one of the hospital rooms.
Jess Kellam comforts American bulldog Dye as Heather Hasty shaves Dye's stomach for an ultrasound.
Dr. J. Gaines White examines the ultrasound monitor as Dye is held by veterinary technicians Jess Kellam(front) and Heather Hasty.
Dr. Jessica Kidd examines the ultrasound reading as Dr. J. Gaines White moves the device around to locate internal organs.
I get to see the coolest things man!..
ANDD.....
.....the coolest cat faces, haha. Thanks for checking em' out! More photos to come soon! -T.

New GT Football Coach Photo Shoot - Atlanta, Ga.
Out of college and in the field! From UGA to GT, huh? This past week I traveled to the Georgia Tech campus with Atlanta photojournalist Michael A. Schwarz. I assisted Michael as he photographed the new Georgia Tech head football coach Paul Johnson on the practice field for candid coaching shots and in Bobby Dodd Stadium for posed portraits.
Michael and I scouted out the field before the shoot to find good angles
We used the gold stadium seating for the setting of a coach portrait
We also used a portable wireless flash to light the portraits near the end zone
Grass of Bobby Dodd stadium
Maybe i just don't get it... is it me or did that generous guy who donated the bathroom maybe stay in college a few extra years? -Tyler

Veterans' Care in Athens, Ga. - The Van
Vietnam veteran Mike Bachler opens the doors to the DAV van inside the Lowe's parking lot, the veterans' meeting place for the ride to Augusta, Ga.
Over the past month, my classmate Lindy Dugger, a graduate student Christy Fricks, and I have been documenting healthcare in Athens, specifically the Chapter 2 Van that takes local veterans to the VA Hospital in Augusta, Ga, about two hours east of Athens. We've met a lot of cool and welcoming people and our project has kinda morphed into both a story about veteran transportation and a profile on the local veterans that use this transportation and Georgia VA Hospitals. The drivers of the van that transport these men and women are all volunteers; the ones we have met are Vietnam veterans. Here are a few pictures of the people in our story, all veterans in past wars and conflicts. Thank you to all the kind people for allowing us to photograph your stories.
Vietnam veteran Bradford Cullen sits in the front seat of the van
Army Veteran Issom Weems, the commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2 and coordinator of transportation in Athens
WWII veteran Julius "Jake" L. Guest, Sergeant in Air Corps tech supply; Guest served during D-Day in Normandy and for a total of 25 months in WWII.

Thank you for checking out the pictures. Please check back soon for a link to a soundslides presentation of the veterans project where you can hear these veterans present their stories and healthcare in Athens. -Tyler
